Caniband is an official extra curricular in Canisius that accommodate and channel the interest of students within the field of music, particularly that of band. Students participating in the club are demanded to improve their performance at the stage. The participants are also taught what they need to know in order to build solid band and to prepare on-stages shows.
No specific date is known when the band was founded, because the band activity can actually run on their own among the students. So we, as the body of extracurricular activity itself, is only providing places for the participant as well as to flourish the community of band in Canisius. Within the period of 2001/2002 several Canisian led by Edward Christmas attempted to revitalize the activity band extra curricular that happened to declined, and was then acknowledged as Caniband. During the period of 2002/2003, the name Caniband was changed into CABAZA (Canisius Band Organization). However somehow, as time went by students were more accustomed with the term Caniband until the period of 2007/2008 when the first name was reused again.
Several activities had been held by the club, including musical gathering, musical clinic, jam session, and watching bands together. The latest activity is put to advantage as we can harness knowledge as much as we want from professional band player. However during the practice Caniband still meet unfinished hindrances that are tool possession and club room.
So far, Caniband’s achievements have been one to be proud as a club consists of minimum number of participant. Among the achievements were 3rd winner of a competition in UPH at 2006 (the Corvettes –2006), 2nd winner at Schoolympic 2006 (Intisari - 2007), 3rd winner at Sang Timur 2007 (Intisari), 3rd winner at SMAK1 2007 (Stola - 2008), and some of the personnel were chosen as the best player of guitar and bass. There were also another achievement such as filling the event at Madagastar charity night, closing of Gonzaga School Meeting, Jubilee Cup, jazz Nite, Percasis, CC Fair, 80 years of CC, Canisius Science and Art Competition, Canisius English Competition and CC Cup. It is hoped that at the upcoming years, Caniband will be able to achieve even more prestigious accolade.
