Canicart Manga
Canicart manga is an extracurricular for Japanese comic and animation appreciator in Canisius. This activity is one of the youngest activity in Canisius and was established only around six to seven years ago. This club was founded by a student called Aan, the same student who also pioneered the founding of Canibreak extracurricular. Canimanga’s activity takes place every Wednesday after school at SMP Kanisius’ Art and Craft room, Ibu Ati as the coordinator.
Canimanga, or often abbreviated as Manga by its participant, is a joint extracurricular between junior and senior high school. During the activity, each participant receives topic to be studied, starting from basic topic such as drawing body parts, movement skeleton, to coloring and perspective. After participants get enough skill, they will be directed to the production process, in which they are asked to actively make drawings that will be showed off at upcoming exhibitions. Skillful participants can also improve their skill by further studying drawing techniques, for example some senior member has succeeded in making illustrations by using computer as the media. Also instead of drawing, there is also another watching film session that has become the trademark of our club. This session is intended not only for refreshment and respite, but also as the chance for the member to gather and developing their ideas.
Most of events held by Canimanga are joint exhibition between Caniart and Canimanga, for example the exhibition for CC Fair at 2005, Canisius Art Blast exhibition at 2006, and an exhibition set up at 2007 to celebrate the eighty years after the founding of Canisius College. Also in 2007, Canimanga took part in the committee of CSAC (Canisius Science and Art Competition) and arranged the illustration contest, as well as the very first comic and image manipulation contest ever held up in Canisius. A loss however that CSAC was impeded by several matters and couldn’t proceed smoothly and this affected also the events arranged by Canimanga. Even so, the team’s spirit isn’t enervated and past failures is regarded as a good lesson and also a challenge in order to set up an even better event for the upcoming period.
