Canichess is one of many extracurricular in Canisius. It was established in 1984 and until now it always have a good reputation. This extracurricular consist of senior high school students that gathered every Wednesday in XI-F. Senior high school’s Canichess was led by Moses Giovanni in 2006/2007 academic year until the end of 2007, and then Canichess was led by Yonas from the 11th grade. Even though the member is not so much and don’t have regular coach, Canichess can still prove itself as a well achieved extracurricular. Senior high school’s and junior high school’s Canichess was separated because of certain reason. Canichess’ mission is to always get achievement in every chess competition in every school in Jakarta. Meanwhile, its vision is to always respect a fair game.
For the past few years, Canichess’ achievement can be said well. This year, Canichess could be the champion in CC Cup 2008 and get the third place in SMAK 3 Cup. Canichess consist of two main team which always dominated the match classification that used International game System.
However, the obstacles that Canichess face are:
No coach available to give chess training. This cause the lack of disciplinary to the member of Canichess. This is very disappointing because the skill of the member couldn’t develop as much, as Canichess have no coach.
The lack of consciousness from some member to follow the extracurricular. Some is seen runaway to play football.
Although there are some obstacles, we really appreciated the addition of some chess equipment and new chess clock that the school has given. Hopefully, Canichess can still get achievement as good as possible, bringing the pride of Canisius.
