Caniphy
Canisius Physics or Physics Lover Organization is a new extracurricular with the goal of developing talent and curiosity of science especially Physics. This activity has just been legitimated in 2007. Prior to being legitimated, this activity was a meeting of Canisius High School’s student who were curious about learning Physics beyond the formal curriculum with the purpose of facing the Physics Olympiad which of course under the guidance of Physics teacher. After several years, eventually the more-organized extracurricular was formed.
This extracurricular activity is divided into two division which are Olympiad division and mechatronic division. In the Olympiad division, the students will be guided specifically to face the National Science Olympiad and the International Science Olympiad. While in the Mechatronis Division the students will be guided to conduct practical physics experiments whose materials include mechanical physics and electronic physics and taken from the outside of formal curriculum. This extracurricular is implemented every Tuesday after school with the duration of 90-120 minutes. Caniphy activity is conducted in the Physics Laboratory. The teacher for this activity is Mr. Agus Jarwanto, who is the practical-physics teacher.
Before Caniphy was legitimated, there were also several students with high achievement in this club. Among them are Gold Medal of National Science Olympiad and Honourable Mention Asian Physics Olympiad 2006. After being legitimated, there were also well-achieved members, amongst them are Bronze Medal of National Science Olympiad 2007 and Merit_2007 Nanyang Concept Test in Physics Advance Level. In mechatronis division, there is also high achievement member that created energy-saving lamp and was exhibited at Consarety Envifest 2008 in Santa Ursula High School. Besides, the other member also invented analog voltmeter.
The learning system also fun due to the materials are based on the members’ intention. The laboratory’s facilities are complete and become the supporting factor of success of every learning. Though this extracurricular is still new, but this activity is expected to increase considerably and create students with high skills that can implement it in society.
