Canipress is an extracurricular moving in journalistic field, especially in school magazine publishing. This extracurricular was founded in 1980. The initiation of Canipress birth began with the establishment of the first Canisius school magazine, which is Zender.
Zender than transformed into Pemancar in 70s. this transformation was due to in that year, Canisian has succeeded in managing their own radio broadcast named Pemancar. But, this Pemancar finally vanished devoured by ages. Until that time, Canisius College didn’t have their own school magazine as one of accommodation to student’s aspiration.
Around 1979, BKS was invented which is one form of cooperation among Canisius College, St. Ursula, St. Theresia, Tarakanita I, and Pangudi Luhur. The purpose of BKS is to publish poem anthology book. Realizing that among those 5 schools only Canisius doesn’t have any school magazine, the first edition of Canipress was published on May 2nd 1980, supported by Sahat Pangabean, Wibisono Kurniawan, and Rhenald Kasali and patronized by Pater Widi and Pater Sewaka.
The sustaining Canipress is an extracurricular under school patronage which not only do they work for publishing school magazine, but also for providing journalistic training to its member. Canipress has successfully hold Wall Newspaper Competition twice in cooperation with MODE magazine on October 16th 1994 and November 29th 1995. In March 2007, Canipress team also wrote “ID Tanpa Batas” page in Media Indonesia newspaper #9553/XXXVIII
Canipress achievements have not always been on top. As a rotating wheel, Canipress has suffered vacuity for consecutive 4 years since 1997. During that dark ages, many problems were encountered such as finance, deadline, and also internal management itself. However, in 2001, Canipress managed to resurrect with its 58th edition titled “Reborn”, a very fit one.
This year, Canipress published its 65th edition (65/XXV/2008) whose theme was “Refleksi untuk Berprestasi” (Reflection for Achievement). This 65th edition resulted form 26 redaction members divided to 6 work division (interview, news, article, photography, human interest, and design). This work division is an exclusive movement to augment the professionalism of redaction from past years. In addition, all of redaction member also have ID Card Canipress worn in doing their professional job.
