As stated in the history of Canisius High School, it is stated that Canisius used to have a well-known theatrical group whose performances were always craved. Unfortunately, this activity became inactive in 70’s. However, the spirit and interest of Canisius High School student in acting is still burning.
Later on, it was started with the meeting between several Canisians who had passion in theatrical act, and with the support from Father Sandyawan, S.J. (Sub Moderator 1983-1985), they agreed to make a new theatrical group - CRADDHA, which was taken from Latin word, credo, which mean ‘I believe’ meaning the extracurricular has a belief, that it will guide the members to have a critical thinking and compassion to the society. Then, Fanny Zahri was asked to help the students to help them in the making of the group and Dede Basri was chosen as the leader. In less than 5 months, the theatre successfully performed drama, acknowledged by WS Rendra, as a drama, titled OEDIPUS REX (Oedipus the King), a masterpiece of Sophocles, the most famous Greece tragedy play writer.
In the next performance, Craddha perform the classic drama titled OEDIPUS DI KOLONUS, a masterpiece of Sophocles, in the hall of Kanisius, in 12 April 1986. As time goes by; Craddha has grown from a little group to a well known theatrical group and got its respect in Jakarta.
During past years, Craddha actively took a part in performing various kind of theatrical act, especially in school activity, such as CC Fair, Canisius EduFair 2006, Canisius College’s Jazz Nite 2007, and etc. The biggest one is in Canisius Art Blast, which is held every 2 years in Gedung Kesenian Jakarta. Several performances that have been performed by Craddha members are ’West Side Story’, ’Jesus Christ Superstar’, and ’Grease’.
