These days, the world has entered globalization era, where the progress in every aspects are very fast, and one of those is the Information Technology aspect. Globalization demands the availability of qualified workforces and have the ability to compete in those progressing environment. And because of that, progress in the education world must go along with the globalization and since the academic year 2005-2006, Canisius College, by the idea of Father E. Baskoro Poedjinogroho, SJ., M.Ed, opened the chance for students to improve their talents and interests in Multimedia aspects through “Canisius Multimedia” extracurricular.
“Canisius Multimedia” is a community for Canisius College High School Student to study various application connected with Multimedia. The students will learn how to make a program with various softwares given.
Multimedia is a combination from various medias, such as video, pictures, sounds, animations and text combined into one, and uses various specific programs so it will be interactive.
Multimedia has wide usage. In education, it can be a medium to entertain as well as educational tools – sometimes called Edutainment(education and entertainment). In business world, multimedia function as attractive presentation tools, marketing tools, catalogue, or various other audio visual presentations. This media can be used as an efficient tools to guide human resources, attractive information kiosk in conventions, and many other functions.
To ensure that the extracurricular activities goes well, Canisius Multimedia received a facility which is a special lab, complete with projectors, hi-spec computers, and a fully air conditioned room.
In 2 years of its establishment, Canisius Multimedia has achieved some achievement. In academic year 2005-2006, Canisius Multimedia won Second Place of Presenting Ideas in “Makan Sayur dan Buah” campaign. And in academic year 2006-2007, Canisius Multimedia achieved First Place in “Canisius Science and Art Competition”.
